Amongst the many disabilities, another disability is the hearing impairment which makes it hard for people with it, to hear properly. In order to make the lives of people with hearing impairment easier, we use hearing aids as an assistive technology.
Hearing aid are amongst the most effective assistive
technologies, which enables individuals to engage fully with the environment
around them. The hearing aid amplifies sounds, which allows the users to hear
and understand human speech and the noise which allows them to communicate
normally in their day to day lives. Loss of hearing leads to isolation, less
social interaction and a hard time maintaining relationships. Loss of hearing
hinders the academic ability of children and proves troublesome in learning but
with the help of hearing aids, individuals can engage with their friends and
the environment which would otherwise be impossible. This promotes the self
confidence and the emotional well-being of the individual.
With the use of hearing aids it can promote inclusive education and reduce the needs for building a special needs school. First and foremost, hearing aids enable students with hearing impairments to access language as instructions are primarily delivered through speech. Without hearing aids, students would have a difficult time understanding lessons, following the lesson instructions, or interact with peers, hearing aids help lessen the problems by making speech clearer and allowing students to process the information. This allows equal opportunities to even children with hearing impairments.
To add on, hearing aids promotes independence and
self-confidence as students are able to participate and engage actively just
like their peers which makes them feel included and valued, This results in
reduced frustration, lesser want for isolation and motivates the students to do
better accademically and socially in their lives. This enables students to learn
more and increases the chances of succeeding with high colors. When children
with hearing impairments are accomodated, it can help promote inclusive
education too, as the students are included in group discussions, collaborative
assignments, and conversations without feeling left behind.
In conclusion, hearing aids are more than just an assistive
technology that helps people with hearing impairments to hear better. Hearing
aids are contributors which allows learning, communication and inclusion. With
the use of hearing aids it can help create an inclusive and supportive
environment for all regardless of their disabilities.
